WilmerHale's London office was established more than 40 years ago. Our London team is 50 strong and focuses specifically on international arbitration, investigations and criminal litigation, financial services enforcement and intellectual property litigation. With lawyers qualified in the United Kingdom, United States and many of the major European and other jurisdictions, the office has a pronounced pan-European and transatlantic orientation that is reflected both in its work and its culture.

Our London-based international arbitration and dispute resolution practice is world-renowned and has been involved in some of the largest, most complex and challenging international arbitrations to arise in recent years. Our UK investigations and criminal litigation lawyers advise on all aspects of criminal and regulatory investigations, working across jurisdictions on matters such as fraud, insider dealing, market abuse, bribery and corruption, cartel defense and corporate investigations. Our London IP litigation practice advises clients across the full range of intellectual property disputes, including those relating to patents, breach of confidence and trade secrets, trademarks, passing off, domain names, copyright, registered designs and design right.

Maxi Scherer Presents Keynote at the SCC Centennial Symposium on Arbitrating for Peace

As part of the celebration, the SCC hosted a symposium on the topic "Arbitrating for Peace" with Professor Dr. Maxi Scherer presenting the keynote address.

  • Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers for Business recognized 28 WilmerHale lawyers and 15 practice areas that span five different regions in their 2016 edition.
  • Chambers UK: A Client's Guide to the UK Legal Profession 2017 ranked five WilmerHale lawyers and one practice for outstanding work and reputation. Among the exceptional lawyers recognized, Gary Born was once again singled-out as the "Star Individual" for Dispute Resolution: International Arbitration.
  • Chambers Europe: Leading Lawyers for Business 2016 recognized 13 WilmerHale lawyers and five practice areas in their 2016 edition.
  • Franz Schwarz, partner at WilmerHale, was awarded the inaugural Swiss Arbitration Association's (ASA) Prize for Advocacy in International Arbitration. The award, established in 2008, was given for the first time at ASA's annual conference in Geneva on 29 January 2010.
  • The Lawyer listed WilmerHale in the top 10 of their annual list of the top 50 litigation practices globally. WilmerHale International Arbitration Partner Gary Born is highlighted for his work in achieving a favorable result in an arbitration against the government of Sudan in a dispute over the definition and delimitation of the Abyei Area.
  • The European/The Legal 500 UK frequently ranks the firm in this series of referral guides focusing on each of the Asia Pacific, UK, Europe, Middle East, Africa and US markets. In the 2016 edition of The Legal 500 UK, WilmerHale is named a top-tier firm for dispute resolution - international arbitration and crime, fraud and licensing - fraud: white-collar crime, and is recommended in four other practice areas.

The International Arbitration Group's London Intern Program provides a unique opportunity for young lawyers from across the globe to experience the realities of a busy international arbitration practice and to learn from colleagues who are leaders in their field.

The intern program, which runs from the firm's London office, welcomes students in the final stages of their legal education, and practitioners in the early stages of their legal careers. The program provides participants from both civil and common law jurisdictions with exposure to the wide range of international commercial disputes handled in our Global International Arbitration Practice.

During their time at WilmerHale, interns are given the chance to put theory into practice by working with the International Arbitration Group's lawyers on factual and legal assignments stemming from current cases, as well as the opportunity to further academic interests with involvement on research projects in conjunction with lawyers in the practice. The program provides interns the opportunity to work with our lawyers and professional staff as members of the team, and interns are actively encouraged to participate fully in all of the work and social aspects of the firm. We also encourage our interns to participate in training opportunities with the International Arbitration Group.

“WilmerHale's Intern Program provided me with a chance to experience the world of international arbitration in practice,” says a former intern who is now an associate with the firm. “Exposure to highly regarded practitioners and the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting cases in the field helped cement my decision to pursue a career in international arbitration."

If you are a candidate applying for an internship position, please send your two-page resume, one-page cover letter and law school transcripts to "The Intern Committee" at WHarbitrationinternship@wilmerhale.com. We encourage you to send applications at least nine to twelve months in advance. If you need more information before applying, feel free to contact one of us directly.
