WilmerHale Named Most Impressive Investigations Practice by GIR

Recognition
Global Investigations Review (GIR) has named WilmerHale the winner of the 2022 Most Impressive Investigations Practice of the Year Award. The honor is given to the firm whose record of successfully navigating high-profile and complex investigations has distinguished it from its peers in the past 12 months.

WilmerHale was announced the winner during the eighth annual GIR Awards in Washington DC on November 17. This is the second year WilmerHale has won the award – the firm was also recognized as a winner in 2016 – and the fourth time the firm has been shortlisted in this category, including in 2016, 2017, 2021 and 2022.

According to GIR, WilmerHale won the award “for its representation of Glencore, culminating in the unprecedented four-agency agreements with authorities in the US, UK and Brazil. The team included partners Howard Shapiro, Kimberly Parker and Christopher Davies in Washington, DC, partners Anjan Sahni and Erin Sloane in New York, counsel Bonnie Heiple in Boston, and partner Stephen Pollard and counsel Lloyd Firth in London. The company remains under investigation in the Netherlands and Switzerland.” Many others, most notably Counsel Chavi Nana and Claire Guehenno, have been instrumental in the complex and sprawling Glencore investigation which, for the time being, denotes WilmerHale has having the most FCPA resolutions secured by any law firm since 2008.

The past year has been a consequential one for WilmerHale’s international investigations practice. We represented clients in some of the largest-ever, complex international investigations matters and our investigations ranks were bolstered by the arrival of a series of high-profile laterals, including former US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara, who rose to prominence conducting investigations and prosecutions of global significance.

WilmerHale's widespread investigations work spans five continents and stretches across the firm’s offices in the United States, London, Brussels, Germany and Beijing.

WilmerHale was also ranked third on the annual GIR 30 list, which recognizes the world’s leaders for investigations. The survey assesses firms based on their ongoing investigations work, hours billed, jurisdictions worked in, and partners' experience. This year marks the eighth consecutive year the firm has been ranked among the top five firms on GIR’s list.
