Infrastructure Project Siting, Permitting and Development REGULATORY AND GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

Clients rely on WilmerHale to navigate complex federal permitting processes and environmental regulations that apply throughout the lifecycle of infrastructure projects.

Our team includes some of the nation's foremost authorities on the federal government approval process for complex infrastructure projects, including several who helped design the statutory framework that governs interagency federal review. With decades of relevant public and private sector experience, our lawyers have counseled developers through the siting, permitting and development of many significant utility-scale conventional and renewable energy projects, including oil and natural gas pipelines, electric transmission lines, recreational, residential and commercial real estate developments, and public buildings, facilities, roads and bridges. Additionally, we help clients ensure that their plans comply with energy and environmental laws and meet requirements under wildlife protection statutes.

Developers look to us to interface with federal and state regulatory agencies in order to initiate and complete projects, including the Department of the Interior, US Forest Service, US Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife Service, National Park Service, Department of Defense, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and Department of Energy. When complex issues arise, our lawyers work with colleagues across the firm, including skilled real estate, government contracts, financing, public policy and appellate lawyers, providing clients with a holistic counseling experience.
