Brian Mahanna Named to Bloomberg Law’s Inaugural “40 Under 40” List

Recognition

WilmerHale Partner Brian Mahanna was named to Bloomberg Law’s inaugural “They’ve Got Next: 40 Under 40” list.

“These 40 honorees represent the best of the future of the legal profession,” said Bloomberg Law Executive Editor Lisa Helem in her introduction to the list. “Culled from a strong pool of applicants, they are first and foremost stellar young lawyers. They are also innovators and pro bono advocates. And many are diversity and inclusion champions who invest their time into making the legal profession a better reflection of our world.”

Mr. Mahanna, based in the firm’s New York office, is a member of the WilmerHale’s Strategic Response practice in the firm’s Regulatory and Government Affairs Department. Formerly a chief of staff in the New York Attorney General office as well as a senior advisor to former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Mr. Mahanna provides strategic counsel to clients facing high-profile and complex investigations, corporate crises, regulatory scrutiny and other significant challenges, particularly when law and public policy converge.

Asked for the Bloomberg Law listing how he defines success in his practice, he said:

“I want clients with an interesting and diverse set of challenges governed by state and local law… The lesson of the last 20 years is that the federal government is largely broken and state and local governments are instead grappling with the most pressing issues of the day. That’s even been true during the pandemic… Helping my clients understand and respond to state and local challenges—across subject areas and fora (investigations, litigation, legislative issues, etc.)—is my goal and the most fulfilling part of my practice.”
