James Bor-Zale is a counsel who focuses his practice on complex litigation matters, particularly intellectual property disputes. He has represented leading technology and pharmaceutical companies in high-stakes patent and trade secret cases. Mr. Bor-Zale has experience with all phases of litigation including pre-suit investigation, fact and expert discovery, motion practice, trial, and appeal. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Bor-Zale was a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Scott L. Kafker of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.

Mr. Bor-Zale has been recognized as an Up and Coming Lawyer by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly and was named to the Ones to Watch List by Best Lawyers in America. He is an advisory board member of the Rappaport Center for Law and Public Policy, co-chair of the Supreme Judicial Court Law Clerks’ Society, and a member of the Boston Bar Association’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Steering Committee.

Mr. Bor-Zale maintains an active pro bono practice and has represented clients in federal district and appeals courts, federal administrative agency proceedings, and in amicus briefs to the United States Supreme Court within a vast array of practice areas including asylum, civil rights, First Amendment, housing, human trafficking, veterans’ benefits, and voting rights law.

In 2022, Mr. Bor-Zale served as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts where he defended state agencies, officials, and employees in tort claims, contract disputes, and constitutional and regulatory challenges. While at the Attorney General’s Office, Mr. Bor-Zale tried several jury cases to verdict, briefed and argued dispositive motions in state superior and federal district court, and took and defended fact and expert depositions.

Mr. Bor-Zale graduated magna cum laude from Boston College Law School. While in law school, Mr. Bor-Zale served as Executive Articles Editor and board member of Boston College Law Review, Contracts Law Teaching Assistant to Professor Cathleen Kaveny, and Vice President of the Law Students Association. He was also a student attorney for the Legal Assistance Bureau where he handled family law and landlord-tenant matters. Before obtaining his law degree, Mr. Bor-Zale graduated cum laude from Cornell University and taught high school mathematics in the Mississippi Delta through Teach for America.
