WilmerHale is pleased to announce that Hilary A. Hurd and Nicholas C. Lancaster have been elected as Stephen M. Kellen Term Members of the Council on Foreign Relations ("CFR") for a five-year term.
The highly selective Kellen Term Member Program brings together emerging leaders in international affairs, public policy, business, law, academia and journalism. Founded in 1921, CFR is a nonpartisan, independent membership organization, think tank, educator and publisher, including of Foreign Affairs. Through research, analysis and convenings, CFR helps shape discussion of the most important foreign policy and international issues facing the United States and the world. Its membership has included US Presidents, Cabinet Secretaries, Supreme Court Justices, Nobel Prize winners and leaders across government, industry, media and academia. Several WilmerHale attorneys are members of the organization, as are representatives of many of the firm's clients.
Hilary A. Hurd counsels companies on complex legal, regulatory and crisis-management challenges involving artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and privacy. Drawing on her experience in senior national security and policy roles, she advises clients navigating government investigations, congressional oversight and evolving regulatory frameworks. Before joining the firm, Ms. Hurd served at both the White House and the Department of Justice, including as Deputy Legal Advisor on the National Security Council, Senior Advisor to the Homeland Security Advisor, and Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General. She was a Marshall Scholar.
Nicholas C. Lancaster advises clients facing high-profile corporate crises, government investigations and congressional oversight matters. Before joining WilmerHale, he spent nearly a decade in cross-border investment banking, including as a partner at a London-based boutique focused on private credit solutions for investments in emerging markets. His experience also includes research positions with the University of Oxford and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, as well as legal internships with the US Attorney's Office for the District of Massachusetts and the US District Court for the District of Maryland.
