Hilary Hurd counsels companies on their most consequential legal, regulatory, and crisis-management challenges involving artificial intelligence (“AI”), cybersecurity, and privacy.

Drawing on her experience as a former White House and Department of Justice official, Ms. Hurd guides organizations through complex government investigations, helping them manage compulsory process, voluntary law enforcement coordination, and congressional oversight. Having served as the lead lawyer on several major presidential initiatives involving AI while in government, she also helps companies across the AI stack navigate the rapidly evolving legal landscape at the state and federal levels.

Before joining the firm, Ms. Hurd was Deputy Legal Advisor at the National Security Council, where she advised senior policymakers on foreign surveillance, trade, AI, and foreign investment in the United States. She also served as Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General for National Security, coordinating national security policy across the Department of Justice and earning the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service and the National Intelligence Meritorious Unit Citation for her work. In an earlier role as Senior Advisor to the President’s Homeland Security Advisor, she managed the interagency policy process on a wide range of homeland security issues.

Ms. Hurd is a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a member of the firm’s Privilege Committee.
