WilmerHale Welcomes First-Chair Litigator Suneeta Hazra as Partner in Denver

Firm News

WilmerHale is pleased to announce that Suneeta Hazra has joined the firm’s Denver office as a partner and member of its industry-leading Government and Regulatory Litigation Group. With extensive experience as both a civil and criminal litigator, Hazra will assist clients facing a wide range of challenges involving investigations, enforcement and litigation, with a focus on healthcare fraud matters.

Hazra combines nearly two decades of experience at the US Department of Justice, where she ultimately was Chief of the Criminal Division in the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado, with the better part of a decade in private practice. Her WilmerHale practice will center on defending clients in healthcare fraud matters, including qui tam suits and government enforcement actions under the False Claims Act and Anti-Kickback Statute. She also has experience assisting clients with cybersecurity matters and environmental enforcement actions.

“We are very excited to welcome Suneeta to the Denver office of the firm. Her deep litigation experience in both government and private practice will be invaluable to our clients,” said Anjan Sahni, WilmerHale’s Managing Partner.

As Chief of the Criminal Division for the US Attorney’s Office for Colorado, Hazra supervised all criminal investigations and prosecutions in Colorado, coordinated all civil and criminal healthcare investigations, and oversaw cyber-enabled crimes and national security matters. In addition to Criminal Chief, Suneeta held several senior positions at the US Attorney’s Office in Denver, where she tried more than 35 cases and led investigations and prosecutions across all types of economic crimes. In private practice, Suneeta has handled a range of civil and criminal investigations and litigation, with a primary focus on healthcare fraud matters.

“Suneeta brings a powerful combination of civil and criminal healthcare fraud experience in private practice and former senior leadership in a US Attorney’s office,” said Brian Boynton, Co-Chair of the Government and Regulatory Litigation Group. “She is a welcomed addition to our firm’s substantial litigation and investigations capabilities, including our market-leading False Claims Act Practice.”

“Suneeta’s addition, which is the second lateral partner addition in recent months, signals the continued growth of WilmerHale’s Denver office. Since the Denver office opened in 2014, litigation has been a cornerstone of our regional growth,” said Mindy Sooter, Partner-in-Charge of the firm’s Denver office. “Suneeta’s reputation and experience will help continue the firm’s momentum and top-of-market position in litigation and government-facing matters in Colorado.”

“WilmerHale's investigations, trial and regulatory capabilities are among the best in the nation,” Hazra said. “I'm excited to work with my colleagues at the firm to help our clients achieve the best results possible.”

Suneeta has a BA from Yale University BA and law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
