On April 19, Berlin-based Counsel Patrick Späth and Frankfurt-based Counsel Jan Wendler, both members of the firm's Compliance and Corporate Governance Practice, presented with Oliver Geffroy of Bank of America Merrill Lynch at a compliance conference in Munich.
Späth and Wendler provided an overview of current cases they are handling on behalf of banking sector clients and offered lessons for compliance organizations, with a special focus on tax-related issues. Geffroy, who is based in London, provided an analysis of recent regulatory developments in the banking sector, including the UK's strengthening of accountability in banking, the Financial Conduct Authority's thematic review of the flow of confidential and inside information, and the impact of the new EU Market Abuse Directive II and Market Abuse Regulation.
