The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) will host the 2021 NAPABA Convention on December 9-12. Attendees can participate in-person in Washington, D.C. or virtually. This Convention is an annual gathering of Asian American and Pacific Islander attorneys, judges, and law professors, focused on offering insightful programming and networking opportunities.

On December 9, WilmerHale Partner Rachael Kent will participate in a panel discussion titled “Harmonizing Cultural Differences in International Dispute Resolution”.

International arbitration and, increasingly, international mediation, have become the preferred means of dispute resolution for many cross-border transactions. In addition to jurisdiction, venue and choice of law issues unique to international disputes, background cultural issues can surface. When parties, witnesses, advocates and neutrals come from different legal and cultural backgrounds, sometimes unexpected dynamics can occur. Such dynamics can have substantive effects not only on the outcome of the dispute but on the relationships among the parties afterward. This panel will bring together international dispute resolution practitioners from diverse backgrounds to share their experiences and perspectives on these issues.
