Environmental Justice in This Time of National Reckoning

Environmental Justice in This Time of National Reckoning

Webinar
Speaking Engagement

Please join us for a webinar providing a comprehensive overview of the historical underpinnings and legal framework for the environmental justice movement in the United States, which seeks to address disproportionate environmental impacts on poor communities and people of color. Environmental justice has come into the mainstream discourse in recent months, propelled by a number of factors including the Black Lives Matter movement, an increased focus on the impacts of climate change, investors’ increased emphasis on environmental and social justice issues as corporate governance matters, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the 2020 elections. As a result, corporate boards across the country are becoming increasingly focused on environmental justice issues. The program will feature WilmerHale Partners Peggy Otum and Raya Treiser and Associate Lauren Mercer, who will discuss the laws, regulations and recent litigation related to environmental justice; considerations for measuring corporate performance; and a discussion of how the upcoming elections could impact the environmental justice framework in the United States.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • What is “Environmental Justice”?
  • Environmental Justice and Government: Current Framework and 2020 Election Implications
  • Environmental Justice Litigation
  • Corporate Benchmarking and Best Practices
