Erica D. Townsend
Counsel
Erica Townsend represents institutional and individual clients in a wide range of white-collar criminal and government enforcement matters, including investigations and actions brought by the U.S. Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, congressional committees, state attorney general offices, and industry regulators such as FINRA. She provides strategic counsel on regulatory inquiries, internal investigations, government engagement strategy, and risk management.
Ms. Townsend serves clients from a variety of industries, such as technology, healthcare, financial services, and philanthropy, and her work has spanned alleged privacy and consumer protection violations, artificial intelligence, visa fraud, federal fraud statutes, and numerous other issues. Ms. Townsend has also participated in all aspects of litigation, including pre-trial electronic discovery, fact and expert depositions, drafting dispositive motions, and appellate work. Ms. Townsend maintains an active pro bono practice. She has aided clients with asylum applications and counseled clients on issues related to reproductive rights.
Ms. Townsend previously served as a law clerk to the Honorable Angel Kelley of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts and was a summer associate at WilmerHale in 2018. During law school, she worked as a judicial extern to the Honorable O. Rogeriee Thompson of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and a judicial intern to the Honorable Denise J. Casper of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Ms. Townsend was also a research assistant to Professors Kristin Collins and Kathryn Zeiler at Boston University School of Law and served on the executive board of the Boston University Law Review during that time. Prior to her career in law, she taught language arts to middle schoolers.
