Hale and Dorr's Litigation Department was recently successful in reversing the conviction of our client, a former senior executive at a large health care product and service corporation. The case involved charges of fraud relating to modifications to and testing of certain heart catheters in the late 1980s. The jury returned its verdict after six days of deliberation. The client was thereafter sentenced to 18 months in prison by then-Chief Judge Tauro, although the sentence was stayed pending appeal. During the appeal, the First Circuit reversed the verdict because of the lack of strength in the case against the client.

The case has been the subject of significant press coverage. It also was the first paperless trial in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. The trial team consisted of Bob Keefe, Dan Halston, and Jason Sherwood. Mark Selwyn also assisted both at trial and on appeal, and Aaron Moore assisted on the appeal.
