In a “7 Questions” profile in Law360, Partner Lloyd Firth sat down with the publication to discuss his career path, the renewed energy at the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and potential changes in regulatory enforcement.
In the profile, Firth discussed some of his high-profile representations, including (along with Partner Stephen Pollard) a former employee of Balli Steele PLC who was convicted of fraud following the SFO’s investigation into the collapse of the organization, and a former aide to the president of Madagascar who was alleged to have solicited bribes to secure mining rights in the country and was subsequently sentenced to three-and-a-half years.
Firth highlighted his approach to these matters, noting that he works to build relationships with clients, who are often experiencing “one of the worst moments of their lives.”
“You’ve got to be a detective, psychiatrist, mum and dad, and priest at various times in the life of a case. I think, if you can get that bit of the job right, clients see you more as a trusted adviser than just their lawyer, and they come back, year after year,” Firth said.
