Federal Circuit Vacates $2.18 Billion Verdict As WilmerHale Receives Big Win for Intel

Client News

On December 4, WilmerHale and its client, Intel, received a hard-earned and significant victory from the Federal Circuit, which reversed a $2.18 billion jury verdict and sent the case back to the Western District of Texas for a retrial.

The long-running high stakes patent litigation between Intel Corp and VLSI Technology is over microprocessor technology. The Federal Circuit vacated a $2.18 billion infringement verdict from a 2021 trial and reversed the judgment of infringement on one of the two patents at issue, remanding the case for a damages trial on the other.

The dispute between VLSI and Intel, which the firm has led in various jurisdictions and courts since 2018, is an excellent example of WilmerHale’s ability strategize and delivering for clients over the long term in complex, high-stakes litigations.

For the Federal Circuit victory, WilmerHale has received accolades from both Litigation Daily as a runner-up Litigator Of The Week, and Law360 as a Legal Lion Of The Week.

The WilmerHale team was Bill Lee, Alison Burton, Lauren Fletcher, Joseph Mueller, Steven Horn, Amanda Major and Mindy Sooter.
