Attorney News

Joshua L. Mogil, an associate in the firm’s Washington office, was elected co-President of the DC LGBTQ+ Bar Association.

Mogil, whose one-year term as co-president begins Jan. 10, was first elected to the association’s board of directors in 2021. As part of his new leadership role in the DC legal community, Mogil will also advise the DC Bar president on issues impacting the LGBTQ+ community as a member of the DC Voluntary Bar Association Leadership Group.

“Joshua has been an outstanding partner, advocate, and leader in the DC LGBTQ+ legal community. I’m so excited to continue working closely with him,” said D’Arcy Kemnitz, Executive Director of the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association.

At WilmerHale, Mogil is active in the firm’s LGBTQ Affinity Group. He also has a regular pro bono practice that includes assisting LGBTQ+ individuals seeking asylum. “Joshua is a committed supporter of our DEI team and the firm’s intentionality in creating a culture of equity, inclusiveness and belonging for attorneys from underrepresented communities, especially those who identify as LGBTQ+,” said Monya Bunch, Director of DEI at WilmerHale.

On his election, Mogil said: “I first came to WilmerHale because its lawyers have always been at the forefront of advancing civil rights. And today, the firm is leading the legal industry in promoting DEI work.” Mogil added that in his new role, he “hopes to showcase the values of a WilmerHale attorney: dedication to excellence, compassion for those in need, and justice for all.”

Founded in 1990, the DC LGBTQ+ Bar Association is the largest local affinity bar of its kind, serving lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender lawyers, law students, and legal professionals in the national capital area. The association advocates for members of the LGBTQ+ community, fosters mentorship, awards student fellowships, hosts networking and recruiting receptions, organizes programming for Pride month, and develops educational CLEs.
