Partner Kirk Nahra, Co-Chair of WilmerHale's Cybersecurity and Privacy and Artificial Intelligence practices, will speak at the American Health Law Association's (AHLA) 2026 Fraud and Compliance Forum. Held in Washington DC this year, the annual forum brings together healthcare attorneys, compliance officers and practitioners for two days of programming on current fraud, abuse and compliance developments and the enforcement priorities shaping the industry. Kirk's session is part of the forum's virtual pre-conference programming and will take place on September 21, 2026, from 1:45–2:45 p.m. ET.

Drawing on more than 26 years of experience advising on healthcare privacy and regulatory compliance, Kirk will examine the growing complexity facing companies that handle health data in his session, “Navigating Short- and Long-Term Healthcare Privacy Compliance Risks.” The healthcare industry thrives on data. This data—most of it about people—is heavily regulated. Recently, the field is growing even more complicated. Companies must deal with law in and out of HIPAA, and what's out of HIPAA is growing enormously. And a new range of laws—mostly at the state level—are creating new challenges and complexity and confusion for healthcare companies or any companies that use healthcare data. Moreover, as government enforcement priorities shift, it is critical to think about these compliance obligations with both a short-term and a longer-term lens. This session will identify some of the most substantial compliance challenges that are emerging.
