Catching up to PFAS—Emerging Contaminants in Massachusetts

Boston Bar Association
Speaking Engagement
The fast breaking news about these emerging PFAS contaminants found in a variety of manufactured products, drinking water, and soil and groundwater at contaminated sites make it hard to keep up with the latest findings. Regulatory responses are also moving forward through new state guidelines, advisories and rulemaking proceedings based on a constantly evolving background of health studies and scientific research. Speakers will discuss contaminants of concern, detected occurrences in Massachusetts and the regulatory framework being constructed to address them across the country. Experiences from recent litigation involving public water systems and contaminated sites in Massachusetts, as well as licensed site professional perspectives on PFAS site management will also be presented. The current state of regulatory proposals for reportable concentrations from MassDEP will also be discussed.
