Kevin Prussia Receives Civil Rights Pro Bono Award

On June 11, Kevin Prussia was honored as the recipient of the Civil Rights Pro Bono Recognition Award from the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Economic Justice. Prussia received the award at the Lawyers' Committee's 45th annual reception, held in honor of civil rights leaders as well as its members firms' associates who dedicate an impressive amount of time and energy to pro bono work.

Prussia, who is a counsel in the Litigation/Controversy Department and a member of the Intellectual Property and Litigation Practice, was recognized for his civil rights pro bono work which most recently included the representation of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in several advocacy related matters concerning "stop-and-frisk" issues in the City of Boston and other parts of Massachusetts. Prussia recently represented ACLU and Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race & Justice in connection with an amicus brief to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court that successfully urged the Court to abrogate a nearly 20-year-old precedent concerning the circumstances under the Fourth Amendment. He also recently represented an individual claiming discriminatory treatment, unlawful arrest, and excessive force by officers in the New Bedford Police Department.

Prussia is a valued and active firm citizen and is steadfast in his commitment to pro bono work. He also serves on the firm's Diversity Committee and is on the board of the Massachusetts ACLU.

The Lawyers' Committee is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan legal organization that provides pro bono legal representation to victims of discrimination based on race or national origin. The committee's mission is to provide a safeguard for the civil, social and economic liberties of residents in Greater Boston and throughout Massachusetts. The Supplier Diversity Office helps promote the development of business enterprises and nonprofit organizations owned and operated by minorities and/or women and certifies businesses to be eligible to participate in affirmative business opportunities offered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
