The Center for the Study of Business Ethics, Regulation & Crime (C-BERC) sponsored and hosted a panel discussion on November 17, 2015 on "Regulating business compliance: What works, what doesn't, and why?" addressing the question of how to best prevent and control corporate misconduct. The topic is controversial with different strategies and approaches generating considerable debate. One of the most commonly utilized mechanisms, government regulation, ranks among the most contentious. 

In this panel, C-BERC brought together academics and representatives from the regulatory community, including Professor John Braithwaite (Australian National University, RegNet), Professor Adam Finkel (University of Pennsylvania, Senior Fellow and Executive Director, Penn Program on Regulation), Bill Fishlinger (CEO, Gramercy Risk Holdings, LLC) and Dan Berkovitz (Partner, WilmerHale), to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the regulatory enforcement process based on empirical research and the real-life experiences of those involved in the process. The panel discussion was moderated by Professor Sally S. Simpson (Criminology and Criminal Justice, Director of C-BERC).
