Yahia Boussabaine is counsel in the Litigation/Controversy Department and a member of the International Arbitration Practice Group. Yahia has advised clients on commercial and investment arbitrations under a variety of institutional rules (including the LCIA, ICC, and ICSID rules) across a broad range of sectors, with a particular focus on energy, construction, financial services, telecommunications and technology disputes. 

Experience

    • Represented a mining company in US$2 billion ICC arbitration proceedings concerning the non-delivery of iron ore.
    • Represented an international telecommunications company in US$1 billion ICSID arbitration proceedings arising from the termination of a telecommunications licence.
    • Represented a company in connection with a dispute with a state entity concerning a multi-billion dollar construction project.
    • Represented a shareholder in three related LCIA arbitration proceedings, and associated court proceedings across multiple jurisdictions, in connection with a US$500 million mining dispute.
    • Represented a creditor in LCIA arbitration proceedings and associated injunction and insolvency proceedings in Cyprus and the British Virgin Islands in connection with a US$1 billion loan dispute.
    • Represented an oil refinery in LCIA arbitration proceedings, and associated English court and Russian insolvency proceedings, in relation to claims valued at €200 million.
    • Represented a software supplier in LCIA arbitration proceedings arising from a dispute concerning allegedly defective software.
    • Represented the administrators of an insolvent bank in defending a US$4.5 billion claim before the English High Court. 
    • Represented a major bank in a US$500 million claim concerning alleged misrepresentations by a credit rating agency.
    • Represented a minority shareholder in English High Court unfair prejudice proceedings and related mediation.
    • Represented a private equity company in a mediation concerning a foreign exchange transaction.
