Melissa Immel focuses her practice on complex litigation matters and government investigations. She maintains an active pro bono practice. 

During law school, Ms. Immel served as a summer law clerk for the US Senate Judiciary Committee in the office of Chair Richard J. Durbin of Illinois. She was also a teaching fellow for courses on negotiation and reproductive rights. 

Prior to joining WilmerHale, Ms. Immel served as Chief Deputy Legislative Secretary in the Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom, where she negotiated and advised on legislation across myriad policy domains. 

Ms. Immel previously worked as a legislative advocate at a Sacramento, California-based government relations and public affairs firm, representing more than 20 clients before the California Legislature and state agencies. She began her career in public service on advance teams for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, having served as a White House Intern in the Office of the First Lady.
