Prof. Dr. Freya Baetens

Consultant

Freya Baetens is a consultant who focuses on regulatory and competition law. Prior to joining WilmerHale, Prof. Dr. Baetens worked on various European regulatory, competition and international law matters in a boutique law firm in Brussels.

Prof. Dr. Baetens is full professor of public international law at the PluriCourts Centre (Faculty of Law, Oslo University), working on an interdisciplinary research project evaluating the legitimacy of international courts and tribunals. She is also affiliated with the Europa Institute (Faculty of Law, Leiden University) and serves as Member of the Executive Council of the Society of International Economic Law.

Prof. Dr. Baetens obtained a Cand. Jur./Lic. Jur. degree (LLB/LLM equivalent) magna cum laude from Ghent University, an LLM with honors from Columbia University Law School and a PhD in law from Cambridge University. She is fluent in English, Dutch, French and German, and has a basic knowledge of Italian and Spanish. She is a member of the Brussels bar.
