Charlie Howell
Senior Associate
Charlie Howell is a senior associate in the Litigation/Controversy Department and a member of the International Arbitration Practice Group. Mr. Howell is qualified in England and Wales. He has acted for clients in commercial and investment-treaty arbitrations under a variety of institutional rules (including the LCIA, ICC, LMAA and ICSID rules) across a broad range of sectors. He has particular experience in the natural resources, telecommunications and life sciences sectors, as well as in shareholder and joint venture disputes.
Prior to joining WilmerHale in 2023, Mr. Howell trained and qualified at a leading international dispute resolution firm in London.

Mr. Howell has represented high-profile clients in a wide range of matters over the course of his career, including the following:
- Representing a global biotechnology company against its co-venturer in a Japanese-law, London-seated ICC arbitration
- Representing a Chinese investor in an ICSID arbitration concerning its US$1 billion claims against a Middle Eastern State for the cancellation of a telecommunications license
- Representing an ultra-high-net-worth individual in five consolidated London-seated LCIA arbitrations concerning multibillion-dollar disputes under the laws of Switzerland, a Caribbean state, and a South American state
- Representing a shipping company in an LMAA arbitration against a State-owned energy company in a dispute arising out of a joint venture
- Representing a Middle Eastern state entity against a UK-domiciled international energy company in a consolidated US$1.4 billion LCIA arbitration concerning the termination of two production sharing contracts
- Representing a consumer electronics company against a telecommunications company in an ICC arbitration concerning standard-essential patents, FRAND licensing, competition law, and contractual claims
- Representing the subsidiary of a TSX-listed company against its co-venturer in a London-seated ICC arbitration concerning the management and control of a Cypriot SPV holding African mining concessions
