Benjamin R. Unger
Counsel
Benjamin Unger represents and advises clients on a variety of commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, commercial leasing, real estate finance, and real estate aspects of corporate business transactions. He works on matters involving all types of real estate, including office buildings, industrial parks and senior housing facilities. Mr. Unger draws on his experience of handling large, sophisticated real estate transactions in helping his clients achieve their business objectives in an effective and efficient manner.
Before joining WilmerHale, Mr. Unger was an associate at another large international law firm in New York.
Experience

- Represented a REIT in the acquisition of an approximately 26 acre office and life sciences laboratory complex in San Diego containing five buildings, with an overall transaction value of over $250 million.
- Represented a REIT in the acquisition, leasing and operation of an approximately 29 acre environmentally challenged parcel containing 11 historically listed buildings, and in the site’s redevelopment as an office and life sciences laboratory complex, with an overall transaction value of over $1 billion.
- Represented a REIT in the portfolio sale of properties in Cambridge across affiliated entities, including both ground leasehold and fee interests, for an aggregate purchase price of $250 million.
- Represented the City of Boston in a public private partnership and stadium transaction, in which the City partnered with Boston’s new National Women's Soccer League team to redevelop an historic high school stadium as an NWSL caliber stadium to be shared by the new NWSL team, the Boston Public Schools and the public, including partial ground leases, overall shared usage and development agreements, and revenue sharing arrangements.
- Represented an equity investor in the joint venture with a state retirement system and simultaneous acquisition of a 30-acre site comprised of 16 lots and 11 buildings for redevelopment as a mixed-use office park in San Diego, with an aggregate transaction value in excess of $1 billion.
- Represented the developer in a Norwegian bond financing relating to a proton therapy center in New York City leased to a consortium of hospitals.
- Represented the developer in a mezzanine financing relating to a five-star hotel on the waterfront in Reykjavik, Iceland.
- Represented an international education company in multiple debt financings relating to properties in Boston and Cambridge.
- Represented an international law firm in its leasing activities in Boston, Denver, New York City, and San Francisco.
- Represented a pharmaceutical company in its build-to-suit headquarters lease in Waltham, MA.
- Represented a pharmaceutical company in its build-to-suit manufacturing facility lease in Salt Lake City.
