Excerpt: As in previous years, the legal developments in Mexico during 2017 have followed the theme of reform. Following the election of Mexico’s first independent candidates in various public offices, public participation in political decisions has reached unprecedented levels. In particular, through the introduction of a new anti-corruption system and several bills to reduce the public funding for political parties, Mexico has adopted measures to counter the effects of two of its greatest evils—corruption and bureaucracy.
