WilmerHale announced the addition of Mark D. Flanagan as partner in its recently established and growing Palo Alto, California office, further expanding WilmerHale’s preeminent intellectual property and litigation practices on the West Coast.

Mr. Flanagan joins WilmerHale following a successful career at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he worked as a trial lawyer in the intellectual property litigation group, handling a wide range of cases including intellectual property, white collar criminal defense, antitrust, and international arbitration matters. His clients included Palm, InterDigital Communications, Advanced Medical Optics, Calpine Corporation, and Global VR.

“Mark Flanagan brings extensive experience to the firm as a top litigator dating back to his days as an assistant US attorney,” said Curtis Mo, partner in charge of WilmerHale’s Palo Alto office and member of the Corporate Department. “Working alongside WilmerHale IP litigators in Palo Alto, Mark will be an incredible asset to WilmerHale’s expansion in California.”

A frequent speaker on trial practice, intellectual property and antitrust matters, Flanagan formerly served as an Assistant US Attorney in the Los Angeles Public Corruption and Government Fraud Section of the US Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles, prosecuting bribery and official extortion, federal program fraud, defense contractor fraud, tax fraud, customs fraud and bank fraud cases. Flanagan tried numerous criminal trials, briefed and argued before the US Court of Appeals and supervised grand jury investigations, receiving commendations for his work from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, US Customs Service, the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General and the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division.

“WilmerHale's intellectual property and litigation groups are among the most respected by their peers in the legal community,” said Flanagan. “I look forward to continuing to build upon the firm’s outstanding start on the West Coast and growing the IP Litigation and White Collar Crime practices with the help of my new colleagues.”

A graduate of UCLA, Flanagan earned his JD from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.
