Attorney News

WilmerHale is pleased to announce the arrival of T. Spence Chubb in the firm’s Washington DC office as Special Counsel in the Litigation Department and Intellectual Property Litigation Group. Chubb joins the firm from the US International Trade Commission, where he spent over 20 years.

Chubb’s most recent post at the ITC was Supervisory Attorney in the Office of Unfair Import Investigations, where he had been since 1989. In this role, he handled litigation involving patent, trademark, trade secret and unfair competition claims under Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930, and supervised Commission Investigative Attorneys. Chubb was the recipient of the Commission’s highest awards—the Commissioners’ Award for Exceptional Service (2006) and the Distinguished Service Award (2002). Prior to serving as Supervisory Attorney, Chubb was a Commission Investigative Attorney from 1986-1989. During his time with the Commission, he participated in over 85 trials and 186 cases.

“Spence brings with him an incredible amount of government experience,” noted Bill Lee, WilmerHale’s Co-Managing Partner. “His deep knowledge of today’s most relevant issues in IP law will strengthen the firm’s capabilities and its service to clients.”

“I am excited for the new phase of my career,” said Chubb. “I couldn’t think of a more dynamic firm to join as I make my move back to private practice, and I look forward to collaborating with the outstanding team at WilmerHale.”

WilmerHale’s Litigation Department has been recognized as one of the best in the nation. The American Lawyer named WilmerHale’s practice as its “Intellectual Property Litigation Group of the Year” in 2008. The firm was recognized as having one of the top four IP litigation practices in the magazine’s two previous surveys, conducted in 2004 and 2006.

Before his time with the US International Trade Commission, Chubb was an associate at Craig & Burns in Washington (1984-1986) and at Cladouhos & Brashares in Washington and Los Angeles (1980-1984). Chubb received his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law and his BA in Math and English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
