Gary Born Honored as Advocate of the Year by Global Arbitration Review

Attorney News

Gary Born, chair of the International Arbitration Group at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, has been awarded Global Arbitration Review's inaugural "Advocate of the Year" prize. The prestigious award was presented on 3 March 2011 at the annual GAR awards dinner in Seoul, Korea.

Shortlists for the Global Arbitration Review "Advocate of the Year" award were generated by a focus group that included GAR's editorial board. Final decisions were made on the basis of peer reviews and anonymous assessments from panels of prominent international arbitrators. Full details on the awards and a list of recipients can be viewed here.

In the GAR award presentation, Mr. Born was described as "simply stellar," and was singled out for meticulous preparation and uniquely effective advocacy. In addition to the GAR award, in the past Mr. Born has been selected by the Legal Media Group as the "World's Best International Litigator."

Mr. Born commented about the award: "I am gratified by the recognition–which reflects the quality of our international arbitration team, at all levels." The firm's International Arbitration Group also placed No. 4 in GAR's global rankings for 2010, reflecting another year of strong growth for the practice.

Mr. Born is the author of a number of leading publications on international arbitration and litigation, including International Commercial Arbitration (Kluwer 2009), International Forum Selection and Arbitration Agreements: Drafting and Enforcing (Kluwer 2010), International Arbitration: Cases and Materials (Aspen 2011), and International Civil Litigation in US Courts (Aspen 2007).
