WilmerHale is proud to announce that Joshua L. Mogil was elected president-elect of the DC Bar.
Joshua will assume office as president-elect on July 1, 2026, and serve in that post for one year before becoming the Bar's 56th president on July 1, 2027. As president, Joshua will help lead the largest unified bar in the United States, with more than 124,000 members in all 50 states and in more than 80 countries. Created in 1972, the DC Bar works to safeguard the professional interests of its members, foster and maintain the high ideals of integrity and learning, and advance access to justice in the District of Columbia. Joshua will serve concurrently as President of the DC Bar Pro Bono Center, which serves more than 20,000 individuals, nonprofits, and small businesses annually through award-winning legal clinics, projects, and resource centers supported by over 1,500 dedicated attorney volunteers.
Joshua brings to these roles deep experience in bar leadership and a longstanding commitment to the legal profession. He previously served as Treasurer of the DC Bar and DC Bar Pro Bono Center, as a member of the DC Bar’s Board of Governors, and as president of the DC LGBTQ+ Bar Association.
At WilmerHale, Joshua is a member of the firm’s Financial Institutions Group where he focuses his practice on regulatory advising, investigations, compliance and enforcement matters. He also coordinates the firm’s Anti-Money Laundering, Sanctions, and Export Controls Working Group, and co-chairs the firmwide LGBTQ+ Affinity Group. Joshua is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown Law, a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and he has served in roles at the US Department of Justice, US Agency for International Development, and at Capital One. He began his legal career clerking on the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and on the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Last year, Joshua was recognized as one of the 40 Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40 by the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association and as a 2025 LGBTQ+ Business Leader by the Washington Business Journal.
“I came to WilmerHale because of its commitment to legal excellence, dedication to clients, and storied history of public service. Those ideals inspired me to get more involved with the DC Bar,” said Joshua Mogil. He added that in his new role, he “hopes to showcase the values of a WilmerHale attorney and the deep bench of talent we have for tackling some of the most pressing challenges and exciting opportunities in Washington today.”
When he assumes office, Joshua will become the Bar’s youngest-ever president and the fifth Bar president from WilmerHale, following in the footsteps of Jamie Gorelick, John Pickering, James Robertson and John Payton. Gorelick stated that, “We are so proud to have Joshua continue WilmerHale’s long tradition of service and leadership with the DC Bar. I know he will bring to the role the same dedication and enthusiasm he brings to his practice. Our Bar is in excellent hands.”
