Courtney Murray Selected for DC Bar's John Payton Leadership Academy

Attorney News

WilmerHale Senior Associate Courtney Murray was chosen for the DC Bar's 2026 John Payton Leadership Academy after a highly competitive selection process for the three-month program that cultivates leadership skills in attorneys from across the legal profession.

The program bears special significance for WilmerHale. The academy was named for the late John Payton, who was a partner at the firm for more than 20 years. Widely regarded as one of the most influential civil rights lawyers of his generation, Payton served as president of the DC Bar and went on to lead the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund as president and director-counsel.

Murray joins a cohort of 27 attorneys from diverse professional backgrounds. Participants engage in leadership exercises, networking with members of the DC Bar Board of Governors and interaction with the DC Court of Appeals. The class of 2026 will graduate on June 12.
