WilmerHale’s International Arbitration Group Recognized with Latin Lawyer Dispute of the Year Award

Recognition
The International Arbitration Group at WilmerHale has been recognized by Latin Lawyer for its role as counsel in a series of highly publicized international arbitrations on behalf of Paper Excellence’s Brazilian subsidiary CA Investment at the 2026 Latin Lawyer Awards in the category of “Dispute of the Year.” WilmerHale received the award for its work on the matter described by Latin Lawyer as “J&F and Paper Excellence settle Eldorado dispute.” The firm was honored alongside other counsel involved in the dispute.

The matter involved complex, high-value arbitration and litigation proceedings across multiple jurisdictions arising from a long-running corporate dispute in Brazil that has been widely reported as one of the largest corporate disputes in the country’s history. WilmerHale advised Paper Excellence on strategy and represented it in multiple international arbitration proceedings central to the dispute. The firm’s team was led by Partner Gary Born, with Special Counsel Sarah Ganz and Senior Associate Maria Camila Hoyos in London, Partner John Trenor in Washington DC and Special Counsel Claudio Salas and Senior Associate Caio Pazinato in New York

The WilmerHale team’s work contributed to a favorable settlement achieved in May 2025, highlighting the firm’s strengths in strategic dispute resolution and cross-border arbitration involving Brazil and Latin America more generally.
