The American Lawyer spotlighted the prowess of WilmerHale’s litigators as part of the publication’s recognition of the firm for having one of the nation’s premier Litigation Departments.
Noting that WilmerHale litigators, over the past two years, successfully litigated 30 trials and settled another 30 lawsuits, the publication pointed to positive results achieved for clients such as The New York Times, Meta, Apple TV and Intel. Also mentioned was the appellate success of WilmerHale lawyers, including two U.S. Supreme Court victories in Glossip v. Oklahoma and EPA v. Calumet Shreveport Refining, reinforcing its reputation for handling complex, precedent-setting cases.
Widely regarded as one of the most formidable litigation practices in the country, WilmerHale combines deep subject matter expertise with strategic insight. Its lawyers have achieved groundbreaking outcomes, including defeating class certification in a $158.4 billion antitrust suit against Meta, prevailing in a copyright infringement trial for Apple TV+, and defending Ivy League universities in a Sherman Act challenge. These wins highlight the firm’s ability to navigate intricate legal challenges to deliver results that shape industry standards.
With 156 partners, 528 associates and 33 counsel dedicated to litigation, WilmerHale’s Litigation Department accounted for 64% of the firm’s lawyer headcount and 62% of revenue in 2024 as it continues to attract top talent and high-profile matters.
The department’s strength continued despite an executive order that threatened its clients’ rights to choose their counsel and which the firm successfully challenged.
“Our bread and butter is litigation and high-profile litigants,” said Ronald Machen, Chair of the Litigation and Controversy Department. “I expect it to grow.”
