WilmerHale Named a Top Workplace by The Washington Post for 2025, David Bowker Recognized for Leadership

Recognition
WilmerHale has once again been named a Top Workplace by The Washington Post—marking the firm’s twelfth consecutive year on the prestigious list. This recognition reflects the firm’s enduring commitment to fostering a collaborative, inclusive and mission-driven culture where attorneys and staff thrive.

In a special highlight for 2025, The Washington Post also featured David Bowker, partner-in-charge of the firm’s Washington DC office and chair of the International Litigation practice, in its annual Leadership Awards profile. Bowker was recognized for his leadership as the Partner-in-Charge of the Washington office, as well as his handling of high-stakes global disputes as chair of the International Litigation practice.

Bowker highlighted the importance of the firm’s culture and people, who embrace the firm’s public-minded approach to private practice and its dedication to justice and the rule of law. The Post highlighted Bowker’s role in several landmark cases that have had a powerful humanitarian impact. Bowker argued and won a pivotal free-speech case before the Supreme Court in 2013 and argued a second free-speech case before the Supreme Court in 2020—this time remotely during the pandemic. In 2024, he played a key role alongside Robert Kimmitt and a dedicated team of WilmerHale colleagues in securing the release of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich from wrongful detention in Russia. He and Kimmitt also helped free The Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian from imprisonment in Iran and later secured a $180 million judgment for Rezaian and his family in a civil suit against the Iranian government.

Bowker attributes the firm’s success to its people-first culture. “There’s kind of a public spirit about what we do,” he said. “The firm prides itself on having a very open and collaborative culture. When our clients face the hardest problems, it’s easy for us to walk the halls and bring together the right people to get expertise across a range of topics.”

WilmerHale’s recognition as a Top Workplace is based on employee feedback gathered through an independent survey conducted by The Washington Post, which measures workplace culture, leadership, and employee engagement. The firm’s continued presence on the list underscores its commitment to excellence, collegiality, and public-mindedness.
