WilmerHale is pleased to announce that Lena Sandberg, a leading EU competition law practitioner with broad experience in matters involving state aid, cartels and mergers as well as foreign subsidy regulation and foreign direct investment, has joined the firm as a partner in its industry-leading Antitrust and Competition Practice Group.
Sandberg, a prominent lawyer in the Brussels legal community, brings to WilmerHale deep knowledge of the EU’s regulatory regime for state aid and extensive experience advocating before the European Commission and litigating in the EU courts.
Her practice has a strong emphasis on the energy sector, particularly renewable energy generation which aligns with the European Commission’s mandate prioritizing the Green Deal and the Clean Industrial Deal through decarbonization and green energy initiatives. Sandberg’s practice also encompasses numerous other sectors, including infrastructure, transport, technology, wood, steel, and non-ferrous metals.
"Lena’s exceptional reputation in the EU regulatory community, along with her mastery of EU state aid law, make her a powerful addition to our Brussels office and our firm," said Anjan Sahni, WilmerHale’s managing partner.
Anne Vallery, partner-in-charge of the firm’s Brussels office, added: "Lena’s arrival underscores WilmerHale’s commitment to providing top-tier legal services to clients doing business in the EU. Lena’s practice is a great fit for our premier EU regulatory litigation practice, including antitrust and state aid."
"WilmerHale is renowned for excellence and dedication to client service, which is just one reason I chose to join the firm," said Sandberg. "I look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues to provide our clients in the EU with innovative solutions to their most complex legal challenges."
Before joining WilmerHale, Sandberg was a partner at another international law firm. Prior to transitioning into private practice, she was a senior officer for state aid at the European Free Trade Association Surveillance Authority.
Sandberg received her LLM in international and comparative law from Vrije Universiteit Brussel and an LLM from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
