WilmerHale was named to The National Law Journal’s 2021 Appellate Hot List in recognition of the firm’s US Supreme Court and federal appeals court victories. It was the 13th time the firm has appeared in the widely followed listing.
The publication’s profile of the firm features a short Q&A with Boston-based Partner Mark Fleming, a Vice Chair of the Appellate and Supreme Court Litigation practice, who credits the firm’s appellate success to experience, preparation and resilience during a year of unanticipated challenges.
In the profile, Fleming discusses two of the firm’s most notable appellate achievements from the past year. WilmerHale attorneys secured a victory for Harvard University when the First Circuit upheld the district court judgment that found Harvard’s race-conscious admission policy to be constitutional. The practice also achieved a victory in the US Supreme Court for the City of Chicago, its client, in City of Chicago v. Fulton which clarified that retention of a debtor’s property after the filing of a bankruptcy petition does not violate the Bankruptcy Code’s automatic stay provisions.
