Mark Selwyn Recognized as a West Trailblazer by The American Lawyer

Recognition

WilmerHale Partner Mark Selwyn was recognized as a West Trailblazer by The American Lawyer for its inaugural edition.

The American Lawyer describes the Trailblazer series as a special supplement developed to highlight professionals in the West who have made an impact in the legal industry. The coverage area for this list includes attorneys in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

Mr. Selwyn’s profile highlights some of his extensive experience as an IP litigator. In his excerpt, Mr. Selwyn describes the proliferation of industry standards as serving an important role in facilitating the spread of technology platforms around the world. Understanding the similarities and differences for how countries around the world have dealt with issues surrounding “standard essential patents” and associated licensing obligations have afforded Mr. Selwyn the opportunity to help develop and enhance the law for clients in these areas.

“The world will continue to become a smaller place as industry standards and technology bring people together in previously unimaginable ways,” Mr. Selwyn noted in his profile. “IP can serve as an important role in facilitating this convergence—but it will be critical that IP is applied in a manner consistent with the purpose and spirit of standards and the standard setting process."

Mr. Selwyn is a Palo Alto–based partner, co-chair of WilmerHale’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice and a member of the firm’s Management Committee.
