WilmerHale Represents Former TV Anchor and Real Estate Investor in Copyright and Trademark Case

Firm News

WilmerHale’s representation of Clayton Morris, a former TV anchor and real estate investor, was mentioned in a recent Litigation Daily article. Morris’s team includes Boston-based Partner Louis Tompros and Washington DC–based Senior Associate Christa Laser

The article highlights that Morris tapped WilmerHale to take action against an Ohio‐based property group for copyright and trademark infringement, misappropriation of Morris’s name, likeness, and voice, violations of Morris’s right of privacy, unfair competition, and illegal wiretapping.

Morris alleges that the property group and its CEO, acting without permission, used Morris’s name and a copyrighted image, and a secretly recorded phone conversation, to promote their own business at Morris’s expense.

“Knowing full well that Mr. Morris did not commit ‘fraud’ of any kind, defendants have nonetheless fanned the flames of public outrage to try to drive clicks to defendants’ own websites,” states the complaint, which was filed in US District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
