WilmerHale Makes Major Pro Bono Commitment as Part of New Legal Group Boosting Sustainability

Firm News

WilmerHale has joined eight other major international law firms as a founding member of a pioneering initiative called Lawyers for a Sustainable Economy (LSE). All nine firms have pledged a combined $15 million of pro bono legal services to entrepreneurs and community–based nonprofits addressing the challenges of balancing economic growth with environmental stewardship.

The LSE’s creation and pro bono commitment were recently announced at the Global Climate Action Summit (GCAS) in San Francisco convened by California Gov. Jerry Brown. Partner Andrew Spielman, chair of the firm’s Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Practice, represented WilmerHale on stage at the event with lawyers from the other eight firms.

In a news release issued by the GCAS, Mr. Spielman said: “We at WilmerHale are proud to be a founding member of LSE and support its mission to increase the odds for success of innovative entrepreneurs with a vision for a more sustainable future.”

As an LSE founder, WilmerHale committed to contribute at least $500,000 in pro bono legal services through 2020. The LSE’s other founding firms are: Arnold & Porter, Cooley, Dentons, Hogan Lovells, Holland & Knight, Latham & Watkins, Morrison & Foerster, and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.
