Three WilmerHale Attorneys Win Burton Award for Legal Writing

Firm News

Partner David Cavanaugh, Counsel Joshua Stern and Senior Associate Kevin Yurkerwich have been honored with the Burton Foundation's 2018 Law360 Distinguished Legal Writing Award. They received this award in recognition of their article, “Practice Tips for Presenting and Responding to Motivation-to-Combine Arguments in IPR Proceedings,” which was published in the January 20, 2017 issue of Bloomberg BNA's Patent, Trademark & Copyright Journal. The article analyzed certain Patent Trial and Appeal Board decisions denying institutions of inter partes review and provided practice tips for practitioners.

Cavanaugh, Stern and Yurkerwich were among 25 total winners chosen from the nation's 1,000 largest law firms for demonstrating clear, cogent and persuasive legal writing. Judges on the distinguished Legal Writing Awards committee were selected on the basis of their understanding, experience and passion for legal writing, according to the Burton Foundation.
