Crypto Currently: An Update on New York DFS’ Oversight of Virtual Currencies

Virtual
Webinar CLE

Join us for a webinar addressing the New York State Department of Financial Services’ (DFS) recent guidance requiring higher standards with respect to the coin-listing and delisting policies of DFS-regulated entities.

On September 18, 2023, DFS Superintendent Adrienne A. Harris issued an update on the ongoing initiative to strengthen DFS oversight of virtual currencies, highlighting achievements that have transformed agency operations and shaped virtual currency policy across the nation and around the world.

During this program, WilmerHale partners and co-chairs of the firm’s Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Working Group Tiffany J. Smith and Zachary Goldman, as well as Partner Michael Held, Counsel Isabel Dai and Associate Benjamin Lobley will discuss these new requirements and how they impact cryptocurrency companies regulated in the state of New York.

The panelists will discuss:

  • heightened risk assessment standards for coin-listing policies;
  • DFS expectations for how crypto firms evaluate a coin offering before adoption;
  • expectations surrounding criteria for delisting; and
  • the updated framework for designating coins or tokens to the DFS greenlist.

During the webinar, participants will have the opportunity to contribute questions online. CLE credit will be provided.
