William H. Paine

Retired Partner

Bill Paine built a broad investigations and securities practice representing technology and financial services companies, financial institutions, and corporate officers and directors in a wide range of SEC and internal investigations. His work spanned accounting inquiries—including revenue recognition and stock‑option matters—as well as FCPA issues, corporate governance concerns, internal‑controls reviews, and insider‑trading investigations. Over the course of his career, he became a trusted advisor to companies navigating complex enforcement environments, and he concluded his practice upon retiring from WilmerHale in 2025.

Mr. Paine also contributed to the profession through frequent speaking engagements on securities litigation, disclosure obligations, insider trading, officer and director liability, and D&O insurance.
