Joshua E. Barker, PhD

Technology Specialist

Joshua Barker is a technology specialist whose practice focuses on the preparation and prosecution of domestic, international, and foreign patent applications. Dr. Barker works with a variety of clients, such as those in the materials chemistry and life sciences industries, including the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device sectors. 

In addition to patent prosecution and counseling, Dr. Barker assists lawyers in conducting scientific journal and patent searching, preparation of patentability, validity, freedom to operate, and infringement opinions, as well as analyses of issues that arise in patent litigation matters.   He is currently pursuing his JD from Suffolk University School of Law. 

Dr. Barker earned his PhD in chemistry at the University of Oregon in the lab of Prof. Michael Haley, where he developed small molecule organic semiconductors. Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Barker was a Postdoctoral Associate in the research group of Prof. Robert Gilliard at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Virginia, where he synthesized boron heterocycles for applications in organic electronics and small molecule activation.
