Elora Borkowski

Senior Associate

Elora Borkowski, who has a background in science and technology, is an intellectual property lawyer that represents clients in patent and trademark prosecution and litigation matters. Ms. Borkowski's background allows her to assist clients in a broad discipline of areas, including the computer science, the computer engineering, the electrical engineering, the mechanical engineering, the chemical and the biological arts. 

As part of her patent work, Ms. Borkowski works to protect her clients' inventions through the patent system by drafting US patent applications, preparing responses to US and foreign Office Actions, and preparing and prosecuting appeals before the US Patent and Trial Appeal Board. 

Ms. Borkowski focuses her practice on assisting clients in overcoming 35 U.S.C. § 112, § 101, § 102 and § 103 rejections, which includes creative approaches such as utilizing an inventor's’ declarations and the most up-to-date § 101 guidance from the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to overcome 35 U.S.C. § 101 rejections. Additionally, Ms. Borkowski assists clients in filing and prosecuting US and foreign trademark applications, including pro bono trademark portfolio work in the entertainment, hospitality and retail industries. She truly enjoys her pro bono work and has received the Pro Bono All-Star award during her time at Holland & Knight LLP.

Before attending law school, Ms. Borkowski held a legal internship with the USPTO where she recommended revisions to USPTO quality metrics on customer and employee satisfaction, which set the foundation for the USPTO’s Enhanced Patent Quality Initiative. Further, in Ms. Borkowski’s other legal internships with multiple Fortune 500 companies, she assisted a general IP counsel in IP prosecution and litigation matters, as well gaining an appreciation of company-wide IP strategies and approaches. Ms. Borkowski also spent a summer at a prominent German research center assisting a PhD student in developing an air filter that removes toxic heavy metals from the environment. While in law school, Ms. Borkowski held several IP clerkships, where she focused on patent and trademark prosecution and litigation prosecution and litigation as well as trademark prosecution and litigation. During her clerkships, she assisted clients by drafting utility patent applications, USPTO Office Action responses and preparing infringement opinions.

In her free time, Ms. Borkowski studies at the Boston French Cultural Center and serves as an advisor to the Chi Alpha chapter of Chi Omega at Tufts University.
