E-Verify Effective Date Postponed

E-Verify Effective Date Postponed

Publication

The Department of Homeland Security has postponed the effective date on which federal contractors must implement the E-Verify system to check employees' work eligibility. The date has been changed from January 15, 2009, to February 20, 2009. This delay is the result of a pending lawsuit brought by industry groups alleging the rule exceeds Congress' intent in requiring employers to use E-Verify.

For more information on the E-Verify program, see our December 3, 2008 Email Alert.
