WilmerHale's Antitrust and Competition Practice was announced the winner of the "Litigation of the Year Award" for the German Rail Cartel follow-on litigation in a Global Competition Review (GCR) awards ceremony held in Washington DC on March 25, 2014.

GCR asks readers to select the winners of its annual awards survey by submitting their views on the matters, teams and individuals that have shaped the antitrust scene over the past year. The "Litigation of the Year Award" acknowledges strategic, innovative litigation on behalf of a defendant, plaintiff, complainant or class. The German Rail Cartel follow-on litigation was selected as a winner due to the scale of the case, which is the single largest follow-on litigation in Germany, and perhaps Europe itself.

Private plaintiff Deutsche Bahn Group led the follow-on litigation in Germany against members of an alleged rail cartel that affected as much as $2 billion in commerce. The WilmerHale team include Partners Ulrich Quack, Stefan Ohlhoff and Jan Heithecker, assisted by Oliver Fleischmann, Julia Schwalm, Patrick Späth, Natalie Achenbach, Regina Klostermann and Johannes Ylinen.

The GCR awards aim to recognize the achievements of teams and individuals from private practice firms, corporate legal departments, economic consultancies, academic organizations and competition authorities in 2013. This year's awards survey saw the largest turnout of voters to date, with more than 3,000 votes cast by subscribers on the biggest competition matters of the last 12 months.
