Sanctuary for Families Honors Attorneys for Excellence in Pro Bono Advocacy

Firm News

For the second consecutive year, Sanctuary for Families honored a team of WilmerHale attorneys during the 12th Annual Above And Beyond event, meant to celebrate attorneys who have successfully impacted domestic violence and sex trafficking victims through pro bono representation.

The team is being honored for their powerful and effective advocacy on behalf of their client in achieving a precedent-setting victory before the Second Circuit, denying an abusive father's Hague Convention petition and permitting the children to stay with their mother in the United States. The case was described by the Second Circuit as involving "novel and significant issues" of "first impression" under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.

WilmerHale honorees included Partner Sanket Bulsara, Counsel Jacob Press, Senior Associate Tamar Kaplan-Marans and Associates Maria Banda, Musetta Durkee and Jing-Li Yu. The event took place on October 28, 2014 at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City.

Sanctuary for Families is the leading nonprofit agency in New York State dedicated exclusively to serving domestic violence victims, sex trafficking victims, and their children. Through services that include outreach, education and advocacy they strive to create a world in which freedom from gender violence is a basic human right.
