New Partners Announced for Washington and Brussels Offices

James W. Lowe has provided antitrust counseling, assisted in obtaining merger clearances, and participated in antitrust litigation in various industries including telecommunications, newspapers, on-line services, agricultural chemicals, airlines, commercial building materials, railroads, and financial services. He has appeared before federal and state antitrust authorities during merger and civil non-merger investigations, and has appeared in federal court on behalf of clients in private antitrust litigation. He has led teams responding to governmental requests for information and has been involved in the negotiation of the scope of those requests. In addition, he has headed teams that obtained clearance for mergers requiring regulatory approval in the United States and other countries. Mr. Lowe served as a Trial Attorney in the Appellate Section of the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice for four years and is currently Chair of the Internet Committee of the Section of Antitrust Law of the American Bar Association. Education: Yale University, B.A. 1985; Harvard Law School, J.D. 1989.

Ali M. Stoeppelwerth has substantial experience representing clients in civil antitrust investigations, counseling clients on the antitrust issues associated with proposed transactions, joint ventures, and distribution arrangements, and representing clients in antitrust litigation. She has provided antitrust advice to several media clients on a variety of matters and has participated in a Department of Justice investigation of the Nasdaq market. Education: Stanford University, B.A. 1985; Princeton University, M.P.A. 1989; Stanford Law School, J.D 1989; University of Amsterdam, LL.M. 1993.

BRUSSELS OFFICE:

Christian Duvernoy practices primarily in the areas of EU telecommunications and media law, competition law, and intellectual property law. He also advises clients on cross-border EU market access issues in the financial services sector, as well as other areas. His telecommunications practice encompasses advice to service providers and network operators on the telecommunications regulatory and competition law aspects of planned international business services, including EU tariff policy issues. Mr. Duvernoy has been involved in joint ventures and related agreements, particularly in the satellite sector. Education: Harvard University, A.B. 1984; University of Michigan, J.D. 1988; Stagiaire, European Court of Justice, 1988.
