Department of Justice Approves Deal Between Sony and MGM Without Second Request

Firm News

On December 8, 2004, the firm won an important victory for its client, Sony Corporation. The Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division approved Sony's $5 billion acquisition of MGM without a Second Request. Given the high profile nature of the transaction and the industry, this was an impressive result, which should facilitate a swift resolution of remaining regulatory hurdles and allow the transaction to close sooner than expected.

Doug Melamed led the WilmerHale team, which included Robert Bell, Jim Lowe, Janet Durholz Ridge, Wendy Anderson Terry, Barbara Blank, Andrew King, Alex Krulic, Bob Lamb and Jeffrey Rogers.
