Taylor Gooch Named to the Daily Journal's 2026 Top 40 Under 40 Lawyers List

Recognition

The Daily Journal has named Partner Taylor Gooch to its 2026 Top 40 Under 40 Lawyers list, which recognizes California attorneys under the age of 40 for their achievements, leadership and contributions to the legal profession.

Gooch is a partner in WilmerHale's Intellectual Property Litigation Practice, where he represents leading technology companies in complex patent, copyright and technology disputes involving artificial intelligence, semiconductors, digital media and life sciences.

In its profile of Gooch, Daily Journal highlighted his role on a WilmerHale team that secured a complete defense verdict for Netflix in a patent infringement case involving streaming and encryption technologies and more than $400 million in claimed damages. Gooch served as the day-to-day lead for Netflix's defense, helping shape overall strategy, arguing summary judgment motions and presenting witnesses at trial.

"The hardest part wasn't the law, it was the technology: it was genuinely complicated, and our entire task was to make a jury truly understand it," Gooch told Daily Journal.

The profile also spotlighted Gooch's work representing Anthropic in landmark copyright litigation concerning the use of copyrighted works to train generative AI models. Gooch leads technical and discovery issues in the matter and contributes to overall case strategy.

"There aren't many cases where you can feel the law being made underneath you; this is one," Gooch said of the litigation.

In addition, Daily Journal recognized Gooch's role as day-to-day lead counsel for X Corp. in high-stakes patent litigation involving online video technology, helping reduce the company's exposure from a multibillion-dollar demand to a fraction of the amount sought by the plaintiff.

Beyond his commercial practice, Gooch maintains an active pro bono practice. The profile highlighted his work co-leading constitutional litigation with Planned Parenthood to defend access to medication abortion in Ohio under the state's reproductive-freedom constitutional amendment.
